Victory for Glasgow Girls in their first match away

This Wednesday, Glasgow 1s traveled over to the Capital to take on Edinburgh 3s, and with the bright but cold start, we headed off. The girls were raring to go off the first draw, and hammered in a few early goals to put us into the lead from the get go. The girls held their own really well in midfield despite a lot of scrappy ground balls, with new club members, Colleen Zulty and Becca Jones, fighting hard to maintain possession. Defence held off Edinburgh’s advances from midfield turnovers exceptionally, with fresher Eve Caldwell and club veteran Iona Urquhart making some strong interceptions and keeping great man-on-man body position. The start of the second half saw our heads drop briefly, with Edinburgh managing to bypass our defence with a couple of fast-breaks. However, after a quick timeout talk, we got our heads back in the game and, with some excellent draws from fresher Alle Dann to regain our possession, we found the back of the net yet again. A beautiful transition up the pitch from Iona and new player Alexandra Bullard, saw Alexandra, as well as Colleen and 4th year India Carruthers getting themselves on the scoreboard. With some really well worked motion attack at the end, our Public Relations Office, Susie Aitkin scored a cracking goal, as well as countless other members of the team getting themselves on the scoreboard. With the final score standing at 21-6, the girls stopped off for some well deserved Krispy Kremes, and patted themselves on the back for yet another solid win for GULC.
